Mac Power Adapter Burns Dog

Today, I learned that the Apple power adapter for the Macs can burn your house or pets if left plugged. Last night, a colleague of mine (we'll call her "E" for the sake of privacy) came home to the smell of something burning only to find her black lab, Scooter, whimpering under her bed with a smoldering adapter by him. Since Scooter was experiencing some hip problems, he was unable to get away from the adapter. E was able to carry big Scooter out from under the bed, and they both spent most of the night at the vet. Luckily, Scooter's hair was thick enough to prevent a serious burn.

This morning, E took pictures of the culprit. Check it out -- pretty scary, especially for laptop owners like myself with many power adapters sitting around the house and my office. Apple should know about this... and help us understand how we can avoid this from happening, or recall the device. (It could win them more fans if they would help Scooter's vet bills, and get E a new bed.)

Share this story with your Mac loving friends, and hope this saves their home and pets from getting burned.

Meet Scooter:

After last night -- this is Scooter's fur -- got cinged from behind his left ear all the way down to his back legs / mid body.

According to E: "The vet said he was lucky he had super thick fur, although there's something called a 'thermal burn' where the skin may look totally fine, but in a few days it can blister / peel. So I need to watch him. He's been having some light issues (not this extreme) earlier this week, but she thought possibly because he may have been struggling so long to get out he hurt or exhausted himself, so may take a few days to recover."
